Position Summary Information

Summary

Manage the Intensive English Program (IEP) as a whole in order to ensure that classes proceed smoothly and the student’s needs are met in such a manner as to prepare them for transition into Traditional and Graduate programs. The Director will provide administrative support, leadership, and execution of the strategic plan while elevating the functionality of the organization. The Director will work to actively recruit students to the ESL program in conjunction with the International Admissions team and will be expected to promote the program as a key part of their job responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.
1. Maintain policies and procedures/manage program budget. Demonstrate experience in financial planning/reporting and budgetary oversight.
2. Recruit ESL students to the program. Maintain relationships with recruiting partners and sponsoring programs/the ability to communicate diplomatically with diverse constituencies.
3. Interview prospective instructors and supervise/evaluate teaching staff.
4. Conduct staff meetings and facilitate professional development. Observe, mentor, and evaluate current adjuncts.
5. Prepare and submit adjunct Salary Initiation Memos each term.
6. Oversee curriculum, class schedules, and assign instruction.
7. Support International Chapel in conjunction with the International Center.
8. Coordinate initial placement testing and end of semester assessment.
9. Coordinate with the Academic Advising Office to ensure student registration throughout IEP and upcoming completing IEP.
10. Spend significant time in the classroom, depending on size of the program and serve as back-up for adjunct faculty.
11. Work with faculty advisors and International Center personnel to support international student services.
12. Oversee courses and provide teaching staff for language camps, in conjunction with the Director of the International Center.
13. Perform other duties and special considerations as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 A thorough knowledge of: Business English and arithmetic; general office methods, procedures and practices.
 Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
 Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
 Ability to use independent judgment, and to manage and impart confidential information.
 Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
 Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
 Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
 Ability to maintain confidentiality.
 Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
 Knowledge of standard budgeting, and expenditure control procedures and documentation.
 Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
 Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
 Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
 Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
 Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
 Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
 Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.

Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
