Position Summary Information

Summary

Performs professional accounting duties including examination, analysis, maintenance, reconciliation and verification of student account finances, other financial records, and performs related work as required. Applies the principles of accounting within an assigned area of accounting or group of funds by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.
1. Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts.
2. VA daily posting and refund processing. Works closing with Student Accounts.
3. Process all student account refunds and coordinate distribution with Blackboard, Accounts payable and the Student Accounts office.
4. Initiate wires for electronic refunds to students for bank deposits and debit cards. Transmit refund files to Blackboard.
5. Monitor all reports from Electronic refunds to address returned funds, etc., and determine action needed.
6. Reconcile all refunds issued to students: paper checks, debit cards and electronic deposits processed weekly.
7. Maintain drawdown and reconcile all direct lending drawdown’s, including monthly reconciliation and year-end.
8. Drawdown and reconcile Pell, SEOG, FWS, Perkins (all federal programs) and Cal Grant for all students by semester and at year-end.
9. Process the return of Federal Funds to the government for student refund checks that are outstanding after 240 days. Monitor the return of checks to CBU and send them out again to locate the students.
10. Monitor the balance of the Donor Holding account and work with UA to reconcile monthly.
11. Maintain all CashNet and eMarket activity. Set up new codes for various departments and distribute reports. Create monthly journal entries for the GL.
12. Monthly and year-end reconciliation for various General Ledger accounts.
13. Participates in cross-training activities to assure office work coverage.
14. Assists with the preparation of annual and interim audit for all companies.
15. Assist in special projects as directed by the Director of Accounting.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position could be responsible for assigning work and/or giving direction to part-time Student Workers, in order to complete work assignments.

 Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
 Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
 Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
 Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
 A thorough knowledge of: Business English and arithmetic; general office methods, procedures and practices.
 Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
 Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.
 Ability to use independent judgment, and to maintain, and impart confidential information.
 Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and/or three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
